Al-Rabi‘ ibn Nafi‘ (Abu Tawbah) and Musa ibn Isma‘il al-Ma‘na narrated to us, saying:
Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us from Musa. Abu Salamah (Musa ibn Ayyub) said:
From his uncle, from ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir, who said:
“When the verse was revealed:
‘So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great’ (Surah Al-Waqi‘ah, 56:74), the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Make this part of your bowing (rukū‘).’ And when the verse was revealed:
‘Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High’ (Surah Al-A‘la, 87:1), he said: ‘Make this part of your prostration (sujūd).’”
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith 869)
Regarding reciting the Qur’an while bowing or prostrating:
Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace), during his illness, lifted the curtain while people were standing in rows behind Abu Bakr. He said:
“O people! There is nothing remaining of the glad tidings of prophethood except righteous dreams that a Muslim sees or that are seen for him. And know that I have been forbidden to recite the Qur’an while bowing or prostrating. As for bowing, glorify your Lord therein; and as for prostration, exert yourselves in supplication, for it is likely that your prayers will be answered.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 479)
