From Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), it is reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The closest a servant is to his Lord is while he is in prostration, so increase your supplications (in that state).”
(Sahih Muslim 482)
This hadith emphasizes the importance and virtue of sujood (prostration) and shows that it is the best time to make du‘a and draw near to Allah, the Exalted. Therefore, it is recommended to prolong and increase supplication during prostration to make the most of this spiritual opportunity.

“I once went up onto the roof of the mosque with Abu Hurairah. He performed ablution and said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘Indeed, my Ummah (nation) will be called on the Day of Resurrection with radiant faces and illuminated hands and feet from the traces of ablution. So whoever among you can increase the brightness (of these marks), let him do so.’”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 136)
